Braces
Fixed brackets and wires that move teeth into a planned position.
Braces — treatment details
Braces use brackets fixed to the teeth and a wire to move them gradually into a planned position. They correct crowding, gaps and problems with the bite.
When it’s recommended
When teeth are crowded, spaced, or the bite does not meet correctly — in children, teenagers or adults.
What to expect
We record the teeth with photographs, X-rays and scans, then plan the treatment. Brackets are fitted in one appointment and adjusted at intervals. Treatment runs over months, and a retainer is worn afterwards.
Aftercare
Clean carefully around the brackets — a fluoride toothpaste and interdental brushes help. Avoid hard and sticky food that can break a bracket. Wear the retainer as instructed once the braces come off, since teeth can drift back.
Common questions
How long do braces take?
Often twelve to twenty-four months, depending on the case.
Do braces hurt?
There is mild soreness for a few days after fitting and after each adjustment. It usually settles.
Am I too old for braces?
No. Many adults are treated.
Braces or clear aligners?
It depends on what needs correcting. Aligners suit some cases and not others, and we will tell you which is appropriate for yours.
