Clear Aligners — treatment details
Clear aligners are removable trays that move the teeth in planned stages. Each set is worn for a period before moving to the next, and they come out to eat and to clean your teeth.
When it’s recommended
For crowding, spacing or mild bite problems in cases where aligners can achieve the same result as fixed braces.
What to expect
We record the teeth with photographs, X-rays and scans and plan the sequence. You wear each set for the time we specify, then move to the next. Reviews check that the teeth are tracking to plan.
Aftercare
Wear the aligners for the hours we advise, and take them out only to eat, to drink anything other than water, and to clean your teeth. Clean them as instructed, and wear the retainer once the course is finished.
Common questions
How long does aligner treatment take?
It depends on the case. Many treatments take several months to a year, and more complex movements take longer.
Are they removable?
Yes, which makes eating and cleaning easier — but they only work if they are worn for the hours you are told.
Do clear aligners work for everyone?
No. Some movements and bite problems are better treated with fixed braces, and we will say so if that is the case.
Will anyone notice them?
They are thin and clear, and most people find them much less noticeable than fixed braces.
