Bonding and Reshaping — treatment details
Bonding uses a tooth-coloured resin to rebuild small chips, close small gaps and smooth the edges of a tooth. It is usually completed in a single visit.
When it’s recommended
For a chipped front tooth, a small gap, uneven edges, or a minor repair where a veneer or crown would be more treatment than is needed.
What to expect
We agree the change first. The tooth surface is prepared lightly, the resin is applied and shaped, then hardened with a curing light and polished. Your bite is checked afterwards.
Aftercare
Avoid biting pens, nails or ice on the bonded edge. Bonding can stain over time, so keep up regular cleaning, and expect it may need refreshing after some years.
Common questions
How long does bonding last?
Often several years, though it can chip and may need refreshing.
Does bonding hurt?
Usually no anaesthetic is needed, and many people have it done without any.
Will it match my other teeth?
The resin is chosen to match the shade of your surrounding teeth.
Bonding or a veneer?
Bonding suits small repairs and usually needs no enamel removed. Veneers cover more of the tooth and are used when the change wanted is larger.
