Dentures
Removable replacements for some or all of the teeth in an arch.
Dentures — treatment details
Dentures are removable replacements for some or all of the teeth in an arch. A partial denture fills a gap between remaining teeth; a complete denture replaces a full arch.
When it’s recommended
When several teeth are missing and a fixed option is not suitable, or when the remaining teeth make chewing and speaking difficult.
What to expect
We take impressions and record how your jaws meet. The denture is then made and fitted, and you return for adjustments while you get used to wearing it.
Aftercare
Take dentures out at night and clean them as instructed. Clean any remaining teeth and your gums every day. Sore spots are common in the first weeks and can be adjusted at the clinic — tell us early rather than putting up with them.
Common questions
How long does it take to get used to dentures?
Usually a few weeks. Speaking and eating feel different at first, and small adjustments are often needed.
Will they look natural?
The teeth are chosen to suit your face and to match any remaining teeth. We discuss this before the denture is made.
Can I eat normally?
Start with softer food cut into small pieces, and build up as you get used to wearing them.
Will I need new dentures later?
The shape of the mouth changes over time, so dentures sometimes need relining or replacing after some years.
